Bail-in of depositors and retail bondholders
- What it is
- Resolution powers that write down or convert into equity uninsured deposits and bank bonds held by households instead of using public money.
- Why it counts
- Savers above the insured limit, or retail holders of bank bonds, absorb bank losses directly, and the threat of bail-in pushes them toward insured deposits and government paper.
